Did Apple Meet Users Expectations With its September 9 Product Event?

Calling it a "very key day for Apple," Apple’ CEO Tim Cook announced the launch of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on September 9, 2014. This is perhaps hardly a piece of news for anyone, because since last year itself the Internet remained flooded with all rumors and speculations about this upcoming iPhone. Some were talking about its looks, some were talking about its specification, there were leaked images, and likewise, iPhone consistently remained a hot topic for the tech bloggers.

Finally, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is out in the market, so it is quite obvious that the readers, who were reading blogs so far based on speculations, now need a clear picture that whether with the new iPhone 6, Apple succeeded in meeting users’ expectations. Taking the cue, this article quotes some of the most popular rumors related to iPhone 6 and the final reality of those.

1 Rumor: Apple will enter the big-screen smartphone segment with iPhone 6

For long Apple maintained a small screen smartphone segment of 4 and 4.3 inch, whereas its immediate

competitor like Samsung, HTC, etc took up big screen of 5 inch, 5.5 inch and even 6 inch long back and also became very popular. This was making Apple users a bit disappointed as the usability, video watching, gaming etc can be enjoyed better on a large screen device. Finally, here we have the iPhone 6 with 4.7 inch screen and iPhone 6 Plus with 5.5 inch that somehow meets the expectation of those looking for a larger iPhone. Even the devices have got thinner as compared to the previous versions. Now, iPhone 6 is 6.8mm and iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1mm respectively, whereas 5S was 7.6mm.

2   The location of Home button will make the usage of the new bigger iPhone a bit problematic

There were negative rumors as well that Apple has done a big mistake with iOS 8. In an iPhone all the important navigation buttons like ‘Back’ button, ‘Accept’ button, etc are located at the top. Till Apple was a 4 inch device, reaching to these top buttons wasn’t a problem even if the device is single handedly held. So, the concern was if the iPhone size grows to 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch then reaching to top located important navigation button would be a problem. So, there were many posts condemning the mistake of Apple.

But with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple has left no reason for its users to worry about in this regard. Even with a bigger screen device, Apple has managed to maintain its single-handed operation mode. In the new iPhones, pressing the Home button will quickly shrinks down the whole display to a smaller size, and hence the users will easily be able to access the buttons on the top.

3 The new iPhone will offer better battery performance

The good news is that Apple has indeed worked on its device’s battery performance, and hence both the devices will have relatively better battery life than iPhone 5S. Apple claims that iPhone 6 will deliver 14 hours of 3G talk time and 10 hours for Internet browsing on 3G and 4G networks. The bigger model will offer 24 hours talk time over 3G network and 12 hours for web browsing on 3G and 4G.

4 iPhone 6 Plus will be $100 more expensive for each storage variant

In the US market, telecom carriers offer subsidies on smartphones. Based on that for a two-year contract, in the US market the two models will be available for $199, $299, and $399 respectively. The models will be available in three storage variants 16 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB, each variant getting $100 costlier.

5 The new iPhone will be a better smartphone

All Apple enthusiasts around the globe are eager to know that how better the new models will be in terms of performance. As we all know that the two new iPhones are powered by the new A8 processor. This makes the iPhone 6 50% more energy efficient and 20% faster in application processing and 50% faster in rendering graphics. It will also be able to better execute performance-intensive tasks like gaming at higher frames per second (FPS) rates.

The pixel density of the two smartphones have also been increased as the smaller one has 38% more pixels at 1334x750p resolution and the bigger one has 185% more pixels at 1920x1080 resolution.

6  iPhone 6 will have sapphire glass panel

It was rumored that the new models will have sapphire glass panel, which is not true. However, Apple does have introduced new display panels named as Retina HD. These are LCD panels featuring ion strengthened glass.
So, it can be concluded saying that Apple matched up to all positive rumors and managed to provide solutions for the negative ones. So on a reasonable note, Apple did meet users’ expectations with its September 9 product event. In fact Apple has introduced many new features also like support for landscape mode, mobile payment feature called Apple pay, and optical image stabilization for blur-free photos and videos.
