Nokia Lumia 830: Review

Nokia has launched many versions in its Lumia flagship; the latest seems to be Nokia Lumia 830. Although, it has been proven over time that most of the Lumia series phones are doing well, they are pretty popular too amongst the masses. However, if this is so then why did Nokia launch yet another version in the same series? Let us find out if you should you purchase Lumia 830.

Look and feel

Nokia Lumia 830

The Lumia 830 sports a 5-inch screen with a basic design; it weighs 150g and has a thickness of 8.5mm. Looking at these specifications, you can say that this phone is sleek and easy to handle with one palm. It is thinner, lighter, and you can easily perform one hand function.

The battery cover is removable that helps you in replacing the battery; Nokia sure has given the freedom of battery replacement to its users. Other things remain like physical shutter button, wireless charging and NFC. These features sure bring it on par with premium products, still it is budget friendly. The catch is the processor that is Snapdragon 400 and other things like the battery case along with the resolution help the company cut down the cost drastically. Nonetheless, you will still like it for its look that sure is attractive. It is available in green, white, orange, and black. The microSD card slot is hidden behind a small hatch that you will need to meticulously remove or else you might break it. The only thing you will regret is not being able to use it in-car, reason being that you cannot place it on a holder. The physical buttons on either side of the unit prevents you in doing it. Another thing would be issues with the volume rocker that are too delicate and activate on slightest of touch, so be careful when you are putting it back in your pocket.

Display

It is essential to have a good display with so many options in the market that have great pixels in majority of Smartphones. With Lumia 830 you get 296 ppi but still the pictures are sharp, and color saturation is good. The text is decent but not as sharp as one would want it to be. Even while using the phone outdoors it is comfortable to operate it, as the display is still visible.

Software and Performance

The Live Tiles and Live Folders are an amazing addition. With Live Tiles, you can create a group of similar apps. Another option of sizing of tiles helps you re-sizing apps for better screen space. The voice assistant Cortana gets most of your work done through voice commands, but it is only the basics.
The 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor along with a RAM of 1GB seems to give what is being offered by most of the Smartphone manufacturers. You will not find the processor efficient enough for heavy stuff like streaming live videos or heavy browsing; this is where the performance lacks or to say is not on par with the market standards.

 Camera and Battery

Looking at the 10 MP camera that this phone has to offer it sure seems impressive with f/2.2 lens, 26mm focal length and 1/3.4-inch sensor. Its illuminated sensor helps shoot with a ratio of 16:9. The technology of optical image stabilization is something that is yet another impressive addition to its camera app. This technology helps in avoiding any blur to an image even when you are not able to hold on to a shot with a stable hand.

The battery power provided is that of 2,200mAh that gives you about 12-14 hours depending upon individual usage. If you are into heavy browsing, gaming and streaming music then you can easily pull off till 14 hours of usage. However, heavy gaming, camera usage along with maps & navigation you will be able to survive only 12 hours of usage. At the end of the day, before you run for charging it will still have 10-20% battery juice remaining. The charging speed for this phone is that of 35% per minute that is a bit slower, so, at the day end you will need to use battery saving measures.

Should you purchase it?

For things like optical image stabilization, low light performance, the camera quality and the image sensor you will love it. At budget range of $639.98, you will not find any phone like this. The processor however is a bit slow as compared to LG G3 with a better processor that is faster too. Still, you will love it for other things that most of the Smartphones out there are not offering within the given price range.
