Apple Replaces iPhone 5 Battery for Free

There are times even when the most top-notch product like iPhone too comes out with defects. This time it happened with Apple between September 2012- January 2013 when some of the iPhone 5 handsets reported to have defective batteries.. This left many iPhone users in a state of shock to discover that there has been defect in their handset. The telltale sign was faster battery drain than usual. However, Apple took the matter seriously and decided that this needs to be fixed.

Issues with iPhone 5

You might be thinking about the process that follows battery replacement. This process is similar to any other program offered by Apple for Apple devices. This is a greater issue as compared to previous iPhone 5 issues. Earlier, there has been issue with the “sleep/wake” button that happened in May. Apple again started replacement program for  that button. Users back then faced trouble with the button that would stop working or was irregular in its performance. This issue was the fault of the manufacturing unit. Apple decided to replace it free for customers who were eligible for replacement.

Battery Replacement

There has been a defect with the battery of iPhone 5 that would lead the device to drain battery juice faster. Any user owning a faulty handset would experience these phenomena and would then need to frequently charge their device. For this Apple decided to replace the battery free of cost. If you too are suffering from this kind of trouble then log on to Apple Site using your serial number and find out if your handset is eligible for a battery replacement.

You can get the battery replaced at Apple store or its authorized service provider. You can go to any Apple retail store or seek help from Apple technical support.

What you need to remember?

If you are thinking that you can get an easy replacement then there is one thing that you need to remember. Your iPhone 5 should not have suffered external of physical damage. This would mean that there should not be any issue with the device like a cracked screen, visible scratches or other such damage. This would then need to be addressed first prior to battery replacement as it would impair replacement.

There is one more thing to remember, before you go for battery replacement ensure that all your data is backed up. For this you can utilize iCloud or iTunes. Remember to turn off Find my iPhone feature. Erase all the settings and data before you hand over your phone for battery replacement. However, this program will not extend warranty coverage for your iPhone.

If you own an iPhone 5 with defective battery since two years then you are liable for replacement. Another thing to notice is that if you have purchased it until March 1 this year then you are eligible for this program. If you have paid for battery replacement then contact Apple for a refund.
